The contest is now closed! On a side note, I’d like to talk about punctuations today:

I’m aware of the greatness of punctuations and their use…
For the Archives, however, it’s important that the users follow a set of simple rules in order to interact. Let’s say you’re writing a story (A) and want to link to another story (B) you wrote some time ago. If you named your first story “B” and create a link to it by making a bracketed link in the Archives to [[B]], then that link will take you directly there. If you named your story “B.” however, the link [[B]] will not work. For a bracketed link to work, it must be 100% the same name.

For that reason we ask all our users to always make their titles without punctuations. That way you can link to items on the AA without wondering if the author named it with a punctuation or not.

And a side note: I believe most titles come without punctuations, no? Books are called “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, not “The Fellowship of the Ring.”, right?

I hope to hold a small experimental AA event for the Horde this weekend.
It’ll be on Saturday or Sunday. (And not interfere with other events of course.) It’ll be a new type of event that features both IC and OOC questions about both the use of the AA as well as the content there.

But I’d need teams to participate.
In theory I only need two teams to show up. Each team needs 3 people as a minimum, 10 people as a max. Team members don’t have to come from the same guild or even be in one. So if there’s two brave teams out there who’d like to test their skills on this, on Saturday 17:00 servertime: Let me know here and I’ll start putting it together.

The prize will be fame and glory.

Here’s the Wow Thread:

Allright! Let me try this blog thing! I posted a thread on the forums today, but thought it’s equally important to put it up here.

We get a lot of these messages these days, so here’s some clarification:

When you register a name it usually goes through (even if you get a 500 error or similar). To see if it was registered, just do a Search and see if the name is there. If it is and the profile is empty, it means that your name is no awaiting activation. This usually happens within 48 hours or less. Wait and look in your spamfolder for the email with your password.

If you get a “That name is already taken” message, do the same; Do a search. Was the name registered within a few minutes ago? That means you are registered. Wait for the password. Check your spamfolder.

If you get a “That name is already taken” taken message, you do a search and: “OMG! Someone has already taken your name and the profile is full of stuff!”, do not despair. This either means that A) Someone used to have the same name but have now changed it to something else, B) Someone has a variation of your name (Say your name is Míchaels, but the profile for Michaels is already there), C) Someone is using the wrong name on the AA (Eg: Someone is named Jeffrey Michaels in character, but since Jeffrey was taken by another character, they registered as Michaels, and thus took your rightful spot), or D)Someone is trolling you with a fake profile.

D almost never occurs. C, B and A does. All the time. Don’t despair. Send us an email and describe what’s going on and supply us with your characters full name (“Míchaels McAwesome” for example). Please include links to the profiles you describe! This speed things up! We will create a profile for you somehow.

Please remember that the AA system only understands one version of each name. That’s why Míchaels cannot exist simultaneously as Michaels. So if you’re creating a new character; consider not using special characters. You’ll save us and yourself lots of trouble!

All adventures, gallery images, messages, and other information are available again. Should you miss anything, do not hesitate to inform us via the Contact form.

Performance should be better now, though we will keep a close eye on how the site handles under load. Depending on what we see, it may be necessary to tweak the site some more to improve performance and function.

Lastly, the blog we started to keep you informed during the migration will stay, and will focus on communication between the Argent Archives staff and you, our loyal users and participants in this great site. While the Argent Archives are focussed on in-character communication and information, the blog is meant as an OOC platform to talk about the Argent Archives primarily.

A permanent link to the blog can be found at the top right of every page.

This weekend, the Argent Archives will be OFFLINE for major maintanance.

As you all will have noticed, the Argent Archives site has gotten more and more slow over the last months. Due to the continuing popularity of the Argent Archives, we’ve outgrown our current hosting solution.

To improve the situation, the Argent Archives will move to a new home on the web. This means the site will be offline for a while. To preserve the integrity of the content, the site will be unavailable during the move.

Also, the IP address will change. This might mean that some people will still see the current (“old”) site, while others see the updated site already. We will try to keep you informed as well as possible.

There might be more information we want to share during this transfer weekend. As the site could well be down, we have set up a weblog at blog.argentarchives.org, which will be available during the downtime and transfer.

Thanks for your attention!
